The Taoiseach has told Dáil that the Department of Education has found two flaws in the Leaving Certificate’s grading system.
He said Education Minister Norma Foley would make a comprehensive statement on the matter later.
In response to a question from labor leader Alan Kelly, Micheál Martin said the priority is to first inform students that their grades may have changed as a result of the mistake.
RTÉ News understands that the errors identified by the Department affect around 10% of the 61,000 students on the Leaving Certificate this year.
Mr. Kelly said that the Department has “gone to the ground” regarding those students who are appealing their calculated grades and asked if there is a reason for that.

He said that it will be in terms of what happened, the measures taken to correct that, the review of that process and bring an independent external evaluation – and above all, he added, to “alleviate the greatest possible anxiety in relation to the students themselves” .
Mr. Martin said that the priority should be the students themselves; Those who may receive updates as a result of these errors should communicate first.

The Taoiseach told the Dáil that the question regarding the Leaving Cert results was “technical” and related to “coding”.
