Massive tests are underway at an Irish meat factory after four staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
Three of the cases, which were confirmed at Green Pasture Meat Processors in Drumlish, Co Longford, followed a positive result from another worker last week.
The three newest cases were considered to have been close contacts.
The HSE has now begun “serial testing” of all personnel in an attempt to contain the outbreak.
In a statement to the Longford Leader, the company’s director, Peter Davis, said: “Last week we learned that a member of our staff had tested positive for Covid-19.
“After this, the HSE carried out further tests on close contacts at the plant. We are now aware of a total of four cases. “
Mr. Davis said that strict security measures were in place at the factory and that periodic tests had been implemented.
He added: “These are the first cases in our plant since the pandemic started in Ireland.
“All necessary precautions have been taken to avoid further exposure of personnel.”
