AN ADOLESCENT WAS in preventive detention today on charges of threatening to kill two people.

Barbie Kardashian, (18), homeless, appeared in Limerick District Court, via video link from the Limerick prison women’s section.

She is charged with four counts of threatening death or causing serious harm to a woman and a man, in July, August and September of this year.

Kardashian spoke briefly in court today and confirmed that her name was Barbie Kardashian.

When asked by the court clerk if he could see and hear the proceedings via the prison video link, Kardashian replied, “Yes, I can hear it, thank you.”

Attorney Darach McCarthy told the court that he would appear as agent for Kardashian’s defense attorney, Michèle Finan, of Arbor Hill, Dublin-based Connolly Finan Fleming Solicitors.

“Today is the first day of pretrial detention,” McCarthy told presiding judge Marian O’Leary.

Garda Sgt. Sean Moloney of the Roxboro Road Garda station said the state “is still awaiting instructions from the DPP (Director of Public Processes).”

“The file is still being prepared,” added Sgt. Moloney.

Last Friday, Kardashian also appeared in court. During that hearing, Garda Shane Kirwan of the Garda station on Roxboro Road, Limerick, informed the court that the defendant was “born male but identifies as female.”

Garda Kirwan said he arrested Barbie Kardashian at 8:30 pm on Thursday night, September 24, and she did not respond to any of the charges.

Sergeant Moloney said at the hearing that Gardaí would “strenuously object” if the defendant requested bail.

Finan said his client “wished to reserve his position on bail” and presented a certificate of gender recognition belonging to the defendant to the court.

Finan said at Friday’s hearing that Kardashian was “very anxious to be detained in a women’s prison as she identifies as a woman” and that her client “made some statements that she intended to harm herself.”

Finan said it was “a very complex case” and that Kardashian would be “exceptionally vulnerable in a prison setting.”

The court has issued an order recommending that “all medical intervention and adequate detention be granted to [Barbie Kardashian] in the circumstances. “

Today, the defendant was placed in permanent pretrial detention, to appear via video link before the Limerick District Court on October 13, to receive instructions from the DPP.
