Ireland has seen a large increase in coronavirus cases with 430 new infections confirmed by the National Public Health Emergency Team tonight.

Fortunately, there were no new deaths, but the figure is the largest single-day daily increase since April.

Galway and Cork are both counties that have seen an increase in cases in recent weeks, which worries health chiefs.

Speaking about the alarming increase, Acting Medical Director Dr. Ronan Glynn said: “As we begin this new week, I ask all households across the country to sit together tonight and make a plan to reduce the number of people found this week.

“We have absolutely no room for complacency. If all individuals, families, workplaces and organizations do not play their part, the situation will continue to deteriorate.

He went on to highlight Donegal and Dublin, which are under level 3 restrictions as cases continue to rise in the two counties.

He said: “For people living in Donegal and Dublin remember that government advice is to work from home unless it is essential to attend in person. For people who live in these and all other counties, please assume that COVID-19 is circulating in your community and act accordingly. “
