The GAA club closes its activities after a child tests positive for Covid-19

A Tyrone GAA club has suspended all club activities until further notice after a child player has tested positive for Covid-19.

Greencastle GAA Club has confirmed that a boy who attended their Go Games training on Thursday tested positive for the deadly mistake.

The club has alerted Tyrone GAA and is following all advice from the Public Health Agency.

As a result, they advised all the children and coaches who participated in Thursday’s session to isolate themselves along with their family members before receiving further guidance.

A club statement read: “The club has been informed that a child who attended the Go Games on Thursday night tested positive for Covid-19.

“As a precautionary measure, the club canceled all club activities until further notice.”

Meanwhile, a host of GAA club matches continue to be affected by the Covid-19 pandemic this weekend with a series of games postponed.

Ulster Ladies Club Championship matches have been suspended due to an increase in Covid-19 cases across the province.

Ten games were scheduled for this weekend at the junior, intermediate and senior levels.

But the Ulster Gaelic Women’s Football Association has confirmed that there will be no matches until the situation is reviewed on 12 October.

Following a recent increase in Covid-19 cases across the province, Donegal moved to Level 3 and a series of positive Covid-19 cases at LGFA clubs, after careful consideration, Ulster Ladies Executive believes that it is best for our members is to postpone the 2020 Ulster Ladies Club Championship, “reads a statement from ULGFA.

“In the event there is a significant decrease in Covid-19 cases and milder restrictions apply, we will review this decision on October 12.

“This has not been an easy decision to make and we thank the clubs for their continued cooperation.”

Meanwhile, Sunday’s Longford Senior Soccer Championship semi-finals have also been postponed alongside today’s intermediate final.

Longford Slashers were scheduled to face Mullinalaghta St Columba’s and Killoe Emmet Og was to face Mostrim tomorrow.
