A West Dublin community is being “held for ransom” by the scourge of coders, and it is only a matter of time before someone is killed by one.
That’s according to Ballyfermot councilor Daithi Doolan, who says Gardai should have the right to stop and load up those speeding through quiet farms on mini-bikes.
Dublin 10 has been rocked by two scrambler accidents in just over a week.
A young girl and a man were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after an accident between a quad bike and a scrambler in Cherry Orchard last Thursday.
And yesterday, a terrifying collision between three young men at a scrambler and a delivery driver on Decies Road caused all four of them to be taken to hospital.
And the Sinn Fein councilor believes emergency measures are needed before another accident goes too far.
Cllr Doolan said: “This community feels like it is being held back by coders.
“The situation is out of control. You have to face it head-on.
“This is the second accident at Ballyfermot involving a coder in just over a week.
“We need the Gardaí to be given adequate powers to arrest and charge those who drive for speeding on roads and public areas.”
“I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time before someone is killed by one of these coders.”
Cllr Doolan went on to say that Sinn Féin will present a Dáil Bill in two weeks to address “the scourge of coders.”
“I sincerely hope that he receives support from all parties so that we can avoid further injuries or worse,” he said.
