Students taking the postponed Leaving Certificate exams this year will not have to wait until next August to be guaranteed a college place if they receive an enhanced college place offer.

In announcing the details of this year’s postponed exams, the State Examinations Commission said that students who take the exams in November and receive a higher CAO offer than they already have will be offered a deferred college place for the academic year 2021/22 when results are issued in February.

The SEC has also confirmed that any freshman college student who is entitled to a higher CAO offer as a result of sitting for the November exams will not financially lose any fee or grant charges if they switch to their new course the following year.

This year’s exams will take place over four weeks in November and December, with one exam every night Monday through Friday and two exam sessions on the weekends, both Saturday and Sunday.

Registration opens Monday morning. There are no fees and students have until 5pm on Friday to enter.

Testing remains subject to public health advice.

Exams are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. M. Every night from Monday to Friday and at 9:30 am and 2:00 pm on weekends.

The SEC says full test schedules will be posted on the State Testing Commission’s website Monday morning.

Registration is open to all candidates who had registered for the Leaving Certificate / LCA exams prior to their adjournment. Students can participate in as many or as few of the exams for which they had previously registered.

The SEC says it intends for candidates to sit for their exams at their previous schools, since the exams would have been taken in June.

The format, content and structure of the individual exams will be similar to those of previous years.

The exams will consist only of written assignments. The SEC says it would not be “feasible or practical” to take exams on oral or practical components, or to attempt to complete courses without finishing.

However, it says that in the case of five Leaving Certificate subjects, the SEC will mark the courses that were completed before the schools closed. It says that these grades will be included in the grade for those subjects. The subjects are; Home Economics, LCVP Portfolio, Communication Design and Graphics, Physical Activity Project of Physical Education and practical courses in Engineering.

In all other subjects, candidates will receive grades only on written assignments.

An earlier arrangement, announced in March, that students would be awarded maximum marks in lieu of the oral language and music performance tests, was canceled when the summer exams were postponed on May 8 and the test system was introduced. calculated grades.

The scheduled junior cycle written exams for adult students and students who leave school early will also take place in November, starting on November 16.

The State Examinations Commission says it will communicate exam details to schools, and that additional information for Leaving Cert candidates will be available at www.examinations.ie when registration opens on Monday.

He says he hopes to have results for the students in early February.

The exams are open to students who have already received calculated grades. The highest grade will be credited.

Candidates can register for the exam through the Calculated Scores student portal, available at www.examinations.ie and at Gov.ie/leaving certificate.

Certificate of Completion Applied (LCA) candidates can enter by emailing [email protected] at any time during the five-day period Monday through Friday of the following week.
