There has been an outbreak of Covid-19 in a room at the Mullingar Regional Hospital.

Several patients have been confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus.

The room is closed to new admissions, registrations and transfers. The patients in the ward will continue with their care and treatments.

In accordance with the guidelines of the Health Protection Surveillance Center, the Hospital’s Outbreak Control Team was summoned and is conducting testing and contact tracing of both staff and patients to ensure public health protection.

Personnel identified as close contacts isolate themselves.

In a statement, Mullingar Regional Hospital said it “would like to assure staff and patients that appropriate action has been taken in accordance with national guidelines. Staff and patients have received key contacts at the hospital in the event that any concerns need to be addressed. “

He added, “Protecting public health is of the utmost importance to the hospital and every effort is being made to reduce the spread of Covid-19 at this time.
