A teenager died in a terrible night car accident in Co Mayo.
The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. Thursday on the N60 Ballyhaunis to Ballinlough Road in the Cloonafarna area.
The collision, which occurred near the Roscommon border, involved a car traveling toward Ballinlough.
A 19-year-old man died in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man, 21, was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious.
Gardai, Fire and Ambulance services attended the scene.
The road is currently closed with detours through Cloonfad from the Ballyhaunis side and also from Ballinlough. It is scheduled to remain closed all morning.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The circumstances of the fatal traffic collision are being investigated by Gardaí de Claremorris who is appealing to people who traveled on the N60 between 10:30 pm and 11:15 pm Thursday night. September 24, 2020 to verify video images (including dash cam) and make them available to you.
