Doyle criticizes Manchester United’s ‘shameful’ excuses after palace loss

After some optimism that they could take the next step in this campaign, it is fair to say that Manchester United had a disastrous start to the season during their 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend.

They were completely outscored by the visitors in all facets of the game, with the two-goal margin of victory in no way flattering Roy Hodgson’s team. United seemed rudderless in attack and disorganized at the rear.

It was enough to quickly dampen expectations at Old Trafford. Many of his fans have lamented the lack of signings, but the players on the field have to do better.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used the lack of a prolonged preseason and the physical condition of the game as justification for his poor start, but Kevin Doyle isn’t buying that excuse.

Appearing in Accumulation Podcast in association with Ladbrokes this week, the former Ireland international said Solskjaer’s excuses after the match were a “disgrace”.

It bothered me, rather than disappointed me. How not to be in shape?

Let’s say they had little time to turn it around, they had three weeks off. Regardless, you shouldn’t lose your fitness in three weeks.

That’s an even bigger load of nonsense because he should have maintained his fitness from last season, not had a chance to lose it. Whatever they’re doing in training has been pretty crappy in the few weeks that they’ve been together again.

If Crystal Palace can look smart and fit, (so should) Manchester United. I imagine they have a million guys working out in fitness at the gym and doing all of those things, probably exaggerated.

Each player likely has their own friend looking after them, but whatever they are doing is not working.

It is actually a terrible excuse to use. It’s a shame for a manager to say ‘we’re not fit enough’, because it’s their job to make sure the person is doing it, to get them fit. You are seeing them every day in training, you should know.
