Gardaí opposes the renewal of the annual license to sell alcohol for the Berlin D2 headquarters next month, based on non-compliance with Covid-19 regulations, the Dublin District Court was informed.

This follows an incident in mid-August in which a video on social media showed people dancing at the venue, during brunch, while a member of staff stood at the bar pouring the contents of a bottle into their mouth of several people.

Berlin D2 is on Dame Lane in Dublin city center.

His manager, businessman Jay Bourke, described it at the time as “20 seconds of madness” and told RTÉ that the footage “did not reflect at all what happened that day.”

This morning, Gardaí on Pearse Street in Dublin indicated that they were formally objecting to the renewal of the venue’s liquor license “on the basis of non-compliance with Covid regulations.”

Mr. Bourke was not present today.

The hearing will take place on October 28.

At the beginning of today’s process in the District Court, sitting in King’s Inns, Judge Michael Coghlan said that these were unprecedented times.

He said that all licenses granted or renewed by him would be on the condition that those who manage the bars, clubs, cafes or restaurants comply with public health regulations.

If they didn’t, he said not only would they get a back or a slap on the wrist, they would lose their license.
