Tánaiste Leo Varadkar is the fourth Government Minister who currently restricts his movements due to close contact with positive cases of Covid-19.
Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly are also restricting their movements at this time.
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, Mr. Varadkar, the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, said: “I was informed yesterday that it was a close contact of someone who tested positive for Covid-19. Yesterday they took a swab and the test came back negative.
“In accordance with public health advice, I will restrict my movements to exercise at home and outdoors. There are no implications for anyone who has been in close contact with me. I am perfectly fine and will work from home ”.
Coveney is restricting his movements after traveling to Brussels for EU meetings on Monday and Tuesday. Mr. Coveney was tested when he left the country and when he returned.
A Coveney spokesperson said: “The Minister has been tested on his return from Brussels and will be tested again in a week. He is continuing his full work schedule. “
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe is restricting his movements until Friday after he came into contact with French Finance Minister Bruno le Maire, who tested positive for Covid-19.
The couple met at the Eurogroup and Ecofin meetings in Berlin last Wednesday. The events were attended by finance ministers from the 27 EU member states.
