An An Post worker was rushed to hospital after a mindless thug stole a post van and dumped the mail into a river in south Dublin today.

The incident occurred in Cloonmore Lawns, Tallaght at 12:50 p.m. when the postman, 40, was delivering a package in the area.

A shameless thug jumped into the unattended delivery van and tried to drive away.

The postal worker was injured while trying to prevent the suspect from leaving.

The thief then proceeded to dump the mail and packages in a local river.

The An Post worker was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment and has since been released. The mail van was recovered within walking distance.

A Garda spokesman said: “No arrests have been made to date.”

A video on social media shows an An Post van with the door open and mail strewn across the ground and across a field.

A local warned on a Facebook page of Tallaght residents said: “I hope no one is waiting for mail / packages in Jobstown, because someone is after stealing the mail van and their mail is strewn across the river and in the field in Kilclare “.

Several irate residents have attacked the embarrassing hooligans online with one person saying, “Can these jerks sink deeper? Unreal.”
