HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE confirmed another 234 new cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

103 of the new cases are in Dublin. There have now been a total of 33,675 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Ireland.

In a statement, the department also said that there have been two more deaths of people who were confirmed to have Covid-19.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Ireland is 1,794.

A breakdown of the figures:

  • 115 are men / 119 are women
  • 68% are under 45
  • 49% confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
  • 34 cases have been identified as community transmission
  • 103 cases are in Dublin, 30 in Donegal, 22 in Galway, 21 in Cork, 13 in Wicklow, 12 in Louth, 9 in Kildare, 8 in Meath, and the remaining 17 spread over 10 counties.

Acting Medical Director Dr. Ronan Glynn said: “The most important thing people across the country need to do now is reduce their social contacts.

We all need to cut down on discretionary social activities. Knowing fewer people means fewer chances of transmitting the virus. Please prioritize who you want to meet with and try to keep your social network as small as possible.

Professor Philip Nolan, Chairman of NPHET’s Irish Epidemiological Modeling Advisory Group, said: “While the 14-day incidence and daily incidence have stopped increasing in recent days, it is too early to conclude that there has been any change in the disease pattern. “

In tonight’s briefing, public health officials warned that a significant number of counties are now seeing troubling numbers.

While Dublin remains the worst hit, with an incidence 3 to 4 times higher than the rest of the country, there are particular concerns about Louth, Waterford and Donegal.

“More than one in three cases in Donegal is in people between the ages of 15 and 24,” said Dr. Glynn. “There are a lot of extended family and family outbreaks.”

But he added that “people in all counties should be concerned.”

“The most important thing that people across the country must do now is reduce their social contacts,” he said.

“It is vital in the coming days, weeks that people across the country reduce their social contacts.

“We all just have to reduce the number of people we meet, otherwise we won’t have this under control.”

Dr. Glynn said that great emphasis is placed on individual choices.

He said, “Go to your football game, but then don’t go to the pub. Or go to the pub but not to the football game. Take your kids to the playground, but not to your neighbors’ house down the street.

These are choices that we all have to make. We can’t have everything we had eight months ago. This is no time for house parties. This is not the time for great communions. This is not the time for large family gatherings.

He again emphasized the need for a small social bubble and said that this must be the case throughout the country.

Examples were cited of those who did not restrict their movements. In one case, a person who was a close contact of a case did not restrict his movements and went to a party. The end point of that was 20 new cases.

Professor Nolan said that the increasing number of cases among the elderly is a cause for “grave concern” and is a trend that dates back to the end of June.

“We started mixing more than was safe and in an unsafe way several weeks ago, and the transmissions that happened then are catching up with us now,” he said.

It described the Covid-19 breeding number as “worryingly” high, but said it did not take into account the new restrictions introduced last week.

It is now between 1.5 and 1.7.

“That’s too high, which will lead to exponential growth in cases, hospitalizations, and ultimately deaths, so the goal remains the same as last week, that both the restrictions and the tips are designed to drive the reproduction rate less than one, “he said.
