Gardaí is asking for witnesses after a man in his 80s died after being hit by a truck in Charleville.
The incident happened on the main street of the city after 11 a.m. this morning.
The street has been closed to traffic ever since and will remain closed to allow a forensic examination of the scene.
The man was crossing the street when he was hit by a truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, Gardaí said: “Gardaí is currently at the scene of a fatal single-vehicle traffic collision involving a pedestrian, which occurred on Main Street, Charleville at approximately 11 a.m. this morning, Wednesday 23 December. September 2020.
“The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a truck. His body remains at the scene.
“Currently, the road is closed as forensic collision investigators are examining the scene. There are local detours.”
They have also asked for anyone with any information to come forward: “Gardaí is asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or any road user who may have camera footage (including the dash cam) to contact the Charleville Garda station at 063 21770, the confidential Garda line at 1800 666 111 or any Garda station “.
