A high school in Co Tyrone has closed after several positive cases of Covid-19.

Holy Cross College in Strabane closed its doors on short notice this morning.

In a statement on Facebook, the school said: “Unfortunately, the school had to close on very short notice this morning due to two other confirmed cases in the school community.”

“More details will be provided as the day unfolds through the SIMS parent app, Facebook and Instagram.”

The school previously notified parents Sunday of two other cases and said it would be open late Monday for additional cleaning.

It has more than 90 employees and 1,500 students.

There has been growing concern about the number of cases in the region, with 129 in the Derry City and Strabane Council areas over the past week.

The news comes after several people tested positive for Covid-19 at a school in Co Kildare.

The Salesian College of Celbridge sent an urgent letter to parents after “several” positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed.

Principal Brenda Kearns urged parents and guardians not to send students if they have any symptoms.
