Revelers who partied at an apartment complex in Dublin have come under fire from politicians after leaving the community in distress.

The aftermath of the rave of more than 100 at a Covid-19 hotspot in the capital also showed the area destroyed in trash, including nitrous oxide canisters.

Dublin Mid West TD for Sinn Féin, Eoin Ó Broin, criticized Oliver Bond’s antisocial behavior in the flats over the weekend.

He said: “My strong advice to everyone is that if we want to handle this virus we have to comply with the rules and regulations that exist.

“If you are involved in a party, you are not only putting yourself at risk, you are putting your family at risk, you are putting grandparents at risk, you are putting members of your own community at risk.

“And look, these restrictions are really difficult for a lot of people, they are really difficult, but a large number of people have lost their lives to the virus and therefore, in the first instance, we must all accept our personal responsibility.”

Fine Gael TD for Dublin Mid-West Emer Higgins told the Irish Mirror that the match represented “total disregard” for the community.

He said the number of ‘hippy crack’ cans left on the ground was no surprise.

She told the Irish Mirror: “The aftermath of the party that should never have happened, showed canisters of nitrous oxide scattered everywhere.

“I’m not surprised that nitrous oxide canisters were found at the scene as they are being misused.

“In addition to the medical risks, laughing gas lowers inhibitions and that’s no laughing matter during the Covid restrictions.

“Revenue has never seized this drug before 2020. But alarmingly, I got figures that show that Revenue has seized more than 14,000 cans this year.”

Local residents stayed to clear up the mess the next morning.

Higgins said legislation should be introduced to limit the sale of laughing gas.

She said: “Nitrous oxide is freely available to buy online on some Irish and foreign websites for less than € 2 per bottle, the aftermath of the Oliver Bond party shows that these are bought in bulk and abused.

“Legislation should be introduced to limit the sale of nitrous oxide or ‘laughing gas’, a drug that causes paralysis and death, especially among young people.”

Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South Central Aengus Ó Snodaigh criticized the garda’s response to Oliver Bond’s flats rave on Saturday night.

He said Gardaí dispersed the crowd of young people after midnight despite having been called in since 7 p.m.

He said a garda station on Kevin Street is less than 1 km from the complex, “but they were unable to attend,” where more than 100 youths were allegedly observed drinking, partying and taking drugs in contravention of public health guidelines.
