Health chiefs have announced another 396 COVID-19 cases in Ireland today, with 241 of those cases in Dublin.
No further deaths have been confirmed today, with 1,792 people losing their lives from coronavirus-related illnesses in Ireland.
In total, there have been 32,933 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland since the pandemic began across the world.
Of the cases reported today;
· 172 are men / 224 are women
· 70% are under 45 years of age
· 26% confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
· 58 cases have been identified as community transmission
· 241 cases are in Dublin, 36 in Cork, 19 in Donegal, 12 in Galway, 11 in Meath, 11 in Kildare, 9 in Monaghan, 7 in Louth, 6 in Clare, 6 in Offaly, 6 in Waterford and 5 in Wicklow. with the remaining 27 cases spread across 11 counties.
Dr. Ronan Glynn, Acting Medical Director of the Department of Health, said: “The cases we reported today were seeded in the last week.
“This virus is transmitted from person to person. We now have a collective task across the country to break the chains of transmission and stop the spread of this virus.
“Plan to see half as many people this week as last week. When you meet up, do so safely – keep your distance, wear a face cover if applicable, and wash your hands.
“Every individual action we take to interrupt the transmission of this disease keeps us and our families safe.”
The capital has had at least six times more coronavirus cases than any other county in Ireland with 15,124 cases.
The breakdown by local electoral area used in the general elections shows that the highest number of cases per 100,000 people is in Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart, where there are 189.8 cases per 100,000 people.
They are followed by Tallaght Central (175.9), South West Inner City (163), Balbriggan (150.4) and Ballymun Finglas (140).
Among the lowest numbers in the capital are Blackrock (35.6), Stillorgan (39.3), Dun Laoghaire (55.3), Firhouse Bohernabreena (55.6) and Killiney-Shankill (57.8).
Dublin is currently under Level 3 restrictions, with more measures in place including alfresco dining with up to 15 people only allowed in bars and restaurants serving food. All other services must be take out, no indoor meals allowed.
Labor Party Business spokesman Aodhan O Riordain has called for urgent supports to be put in place for the thousands of workers who are out of work for the second time in the space of three months.
Congressman O Riordain called for the immediate restoration of the Pandemic Unemployment Pay, a ban on evictions and rent increases, and an extension of the brake on bank reimbursements.
