THREE MEN ARRESTED as part of an investigation into an alleged online romance and investment fraud are due to appear in court today.
The arrests were made on Monday by gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crimes Bureau (GNECB) during search operations in West Dublin and Navan.
In an update this morning, Gardaí said that the three men had been charged and will appear before the Criminal Justice Courts this morning at 10.30 am.
Speaking earlier this week, Detective Superintendent Michael Cryan said it was “a novel investigation as the senders of those emails had never been arrested in Ireland before.”
Victims of romance fraud scams generally come across scammers through dating websites. Scammers create fake profiles and build relationships with their victims, earn their trust and eventually ask for money, sometimes for travel expenses to see them, for emergency medical expenses, or for business opportunities.
