The alleged robbery occurred last Monday, after the 50-year-old man attended Mercy Hospital.

He was resting in the nearby Gravel Lane when he was pushed out of his wheelchair and his wallet containing € 100 was stolen.

Garda Lorna Healy gave evidence of Foley’s arrest, indictment and reprimand in Mallow at 9 a.m. Thursday.

He was taken to Bridewell Garda Station in Cork City, where he was questioned about the robbery.

He said Foley, of Ceoil na Nean, Gould’s Hill, Mallow, did not respond when the sole charge of theft was brought.

Garda Healy objected to bail in the case based on the seriousness of the charge and the likelihood that Foley would commit crimes if released on bail.

She said the CCTV evidence in the case was strong.

Foley’s attorney said his client strongly denied being the culprit.

Judge Olann Kelleher placed Foley in pretrial detention until Sept. 25.
