Bale arrives at Spurs but the deal is not yet closed

Gareth Bale was still waiting to officially complete his return to Tottenham from Real Madrid.

The Wales international was photographed arriving at Tottenham training ground in the afternoon after flying to London to seal a one-season loan return to the club he left in 2013.

But Spurs fans were still waiting for confirmation of the signing.

The club have been in talks for the past few days to sign the 31-year-old Bale seven years after his departure, and it appears that all financial hurdles have been overcome.

Chief José Mourinho has refused to answer questions about the measure.

Madrid is understood to pay a large chunk of Bale’s hefty salary.

Tottenham are also on the verge of signing Bale’s Madrid teammate, Sergio Reguilón, on a permanent transfer.

Left-back Reguilon, who was interesting to Manchester United, is poised to make a £ 27.5 million (€ 30 million) move on a five-year deal after Spurs quickly concluded negotiations for his services.

Madrid is believed to have inserted a buyback clause into the deal.

But it’s Bale’s return that will strike the heartstrings of Spurs fans after a hugely successful first season at White Hart Lane.

The Cardiff-born player traded the north London club for the Spanish capital for a then-world-record fee in 2013, winning four Champions League titles during a medal-laden period at the Bernabéu.

But Bale has found himself sidelined with Zinedine Zidane and has spent the last two years struggling to get into the side.

His return to Spurs is also timely for Mourinho after a lousy start to the campaign against Everton on Sunday, when they looked uncreative in a slow 1-0 loss.

They also needed two goals in the final 10 minutes to beat Bulgarian side Lokotmotiv Plovdiv in a Europa League tie, having lost a goal with 19 minutes remaining.
