‘Puzzle pieces are coming together’: us private investigators identify suspect they believe murdered Annie McCarrick

A US-based team of private investigators has identified a suspect they believe is responsible for the murder of the missing American Annie McCarrick.

Ichael Griffith, a New York-based attorney who was hired by Ms. McCarrick’s family in the 1990s to help with the missing persons investigation, told Independent.ie that information provided by a member of the public has led to a significant advance in the case.

Griffith arrived in Dublin earlier this week and met with an An Garda Síochána detective in connection with the investigation.

“We spent almost two hours talking about the case and agreed to share information,” he said.

“I am sure that the Gardaí are serious about solving the case and I believe that we can establish a relationship that will be of mutual benefit. Serious efforts are now being made to resolve this case and we are hopeful that we can finally obtain justice for the McCarrick family. “

Earlier this month, Independent.ie revealed that Griffith and former FBI agent Kenneth Strange plan to travel to Ireland later this year to try to find out what happened to the 26-year-old.

The team was contacted by multiple individuals following an appeal for information on the case, culminating in one particular individual with important information being contacted.

“I can’t go into details, but this is credible and significant information related to the day Annie disappeared,” Griffith said.

“We had a lot of people show up, who had very good intentions, but the information had led us nowhere. In this person’s case, the details provided could lead to the breakthrough we need. They gave details related to an individual that warrants a careful investigation.

“The pieces of the puzzle are slowly coming together,” he said.

“Sometimes it just takes an effort to refocus people’s minds on a particular case for information to flow. We are now focused on an individual and we are asking people to contact us with anything that can help. Contact us or contact the gardaí ”.

Mrs. McCarrick was 26 when she was last seen taking a bus to Enniskerry, Co Wicklow. Her father, John, who spent years trying to find out what happened to her, died in 2009 with no answers.

Mr Griffith and Mr Strange have joined forces with Annie’s uncle, John Covell, in an attempt to finally solve the mystery.

The US-based team is assisted by Brian McCarthy, an Irish private investigator who was initially hired by the McCarricks when their daughter disappeared nearly 30 years ago.

At the time, a gardaí investigating Ms McCarrick’s disappearance collected information that appeared to point to Annie visiting the Johnnie Fox pub in the town of Glencullen, high in the Dublin mountains. Griffith and the US-based team do not believe that information is true.

“She didn’t go there,” he said.

Our own investigations have established that the sighting of her in the pub was a case of mistaken identity. This new information would match our belief that she did not go to the pub. “

Griffith also said that a separate witness account, not formally turned over to gardaí at the time, also fits the new lead.
