Liverpool will reportedly pay just £ 5 million for Thiago Alcantara this summer as the complexities of the switch from Spaniard to Anfield have been revealed.

Thiago made it known at the end of last season that he wanted a new challenge, and Bayern Munich were eager to get something for the midfielder entering the final year of his contract.

With the 29-year-old interested in moving to Anfield, Liverpool were in a solid negotiating position.

Reds sports director Michael Edwards is known for driving a tough deal, and the result is a very impressive deal.

Thiago will sign a four-year contract in Liverpool, with a guaranteed payment of £ 20 million in four installments over the course of the deal, according to the Mirror.

That means Liverpool is ready to shell out just £ 5 million up front.

The remaining £ 6 million of the £ 26 million will be paid according to individual and team-related bonuses.

They are said to include Liverpool winning the Premier League or Champions League again, if Thiago plays a ‘big role’ in the wins.

And there are also triggers related to individual acclaim, including winning the Ballon d’Or.
