Tributes have been paid to Pat McDonnell, founder of the popular paint shop, after he passed away earlier this week.
McDonnell passed away peacefully Tuesday surrounded by his family at Cork University Hospital.
The Grenagh man opened his first store in 1977 with his wife Cora on Grattan Street before moving to Bachelors Quay.
They soon expanded the business to other locations, however the downtown store still stands alongside some of the original staff from the 70s and 80s.
The chain announced on Facebook that its stores would close early today as a show of respect to the founder.
They said, “Please note that all stores will close today at 2pm in memory of Mr. Pat McDonnell, who founded this company in 1977. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”
McDonnell was the president of the Grenagh GAA CLub, which suspended activities to honor him and paid tribute to him today.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Pat McDonnell, our esteemed club president, has passed away. Our deepest condolences to Cora, Aidan, Shane, Trish, Trini, Johnny and the entire McDonnell family.
