Covid-19 cases in Donegal are random

An HSE specialist in public health medicine in the North West has said that Covid-19 cases in Co Donegal are random and there is no concern for any particular place or workplace.

Dr. Anthony Breslin also said that there is no problem with the county schools.

Yesterday, Acting Medical Director Dr. Ronan Glynn said there was growing concern about trends in several counties, including Donegal, Waterford and Louth.

Dr. Breslin said today that the cases in Donegal are countywide.

He said a small increase was expected as society began to open up again, but it appears that people have let their guard down regarding guidelines on things like hand hygiene and social distancing.

Dr. Breslin said health officials are hearing stories about parties, not just from young people but also from adults, who attend christening parties, anniversaries and retirements.

He said there are a large number of attendees at these events, with no social distancing involved.

“That’s where we are getting the cases,” he said.

Dr. Breslin again appealed to people to adhere to all of the guidelines, stating that we don’t want people to get sick and we certainly don’t want to go to level 3.
