Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has admitted that he does not know if Luis Suárez will remain at the club beyond the current transfer window.

Suárez, who was left out of the Barça team for the second straight game in their 3-1 friendly win against Girona, is close to reaching a deal with Juventus, but a free transfer from Barcelona can only happen if he accepts a package compensation with your current club.

The Uruguayan forward has a contract with Barcelona until the end of the 2020/21 season.

One of Koeman’s first acts as Barça coach was to tell Suárez that they no longer wanted him, but getting rid of the 33-year-old is proving difficult.

The Dutch coach says that if Suárez remains with the Spanish club, he will not be treated differently from any other player.

“I have told him about his future and we are waiting to see if he leaves or not, we still do not know,” Koeman told Catalan channel TV3 after the victory over Girona.

“But here we respect all contracts and if in the end he doesn’t find a club and stays, he will be like any other player on the squad.”

One player who seems certain to stay at Barça is Philippe Coutinho, who scored for the second consecutive game since returning from his loan at Bayern Munich.

“He’s very motivated right now, he’s training well and playing well,” Koeman said of the Brazilian.

Barcelona will play Elche in their last preseason game on Saturday before starting their league campaign at home against Villarreal.

“We see ourselves in good shape, the players played 60 minutes today and many will play 90 minutes on Saturday, so they are ready for the start of the season,” Koeman added.

“I’m happy with the way we play today, with a lot of preparation from behind. It was a good display overall and when the season starts we will be 100 percent.”
