One of the largest GAA clubs in and around Cork City has suspended all activity after a member tested positive for COVID-19.

Ballincollig GAA has informed all club players, members and supporters that all activity at the club has been temporarily suspended this morning “due to a club member testing positive for covid-19.”

Yesterday, the secondary gaelscoil at Ballincollig, Coláiste Choilmin, reported a positive test and the HSE conducted an immediate risk assessment.

Ballincollig GAA club secretary Ger Halligan told CorkBeo they had decided to take “immediate action, probably beyond what we should do, to protect the health of our players, coaching staff and club members.”

“Your safety and the safety of everyone at this club and in the community is 100 percent our priority,” he added.

All club members have been informed and will be kept updated on the status of the club and its future plans.

The HSE and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly have emphasized that cases will occur in schools, clubs and workplaces over the coming weeks and months.

But in each case, public health officials will work quickly to conduct risk assessments and contain any risks.
