Pubs that don’t serve food will not be able to open as planned in Dublin next week.

However, so-called ‘wet pubs’ in other parts of the country will be able to serve customers for the first time in six months.

There are serious concerns about the spread of the virus in the capital in recent weeks and the government will enforce tomorrow a recommendation from the National Public Health Emergencies Team (Nphet) calling for wet pubs in Dublin not to open on September 21.

Government party leaders are believed to have agreed that pubs will not open in Dublin next week. The Cabinet is expected to approve the decision tomorrow morning.

The reopening of pubs has been delayed three times and there is growing anger among publicans.

But the growing number of new cases in Dublin means the capital’s bar owners will have to wait longer.

Restrictions on the number of people allowed to visit a home will also be introduced in Dublin.

However, the county will not move to level three restrictions under the government’s new plan to live with Covid-19.

Instead, Dubliners will be given another week to reduce the spread of the coronavirus before further restrictions are put in place.

In the third level of the new plan, people will be asked to stay in the regions and restaurants will only be able to bring or deliver food.
