Shocking video shows a man repeatedly firing at the 24-year-old officer and the 31-year-old officer from the Office of Traffic Services on their patrol in front of the city’s Metro Blue Line station.

The footage shows the unidentified shooter firing on the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, leaving the male and female officer with critical head injuries.

The suspect got off a bus at the station and then carried out the attack before fleeing on foot.

“At this point we have a very, very generic description of a dark-skinned man and it came from one of the victims,” Captain Kent Wegener told a news conference.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tweeted: “A deputy and a female deputy were ambushed while sitting in their patrol vehicle.

“Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition. They are currently being treated.”

Sheriff Alex Villanueva said one of the officers was a 31-year-old mother with a six-year-old son and her husband is with her at the hospital.

The other deputy is a 24-year-old man and his parents and girlfriend are in the hospital.

He said both had been sworn in at the department only 14 months ago.

The two officers initiated radio contact after they were shot and taken to hospital with the help of other officers, he said.

“This is just a grim reminder that this is dangerous work, and actions and words have consequences,” said Sheriff Villanueva.

“Our job doesn’t get easier because people don’t like law enforcement. It makes me angry, at the same time dismays me. There is no nice way to put it. “

The Los Angeles FBI has offered resources and “stands ready to help” in response to the attack.

Local law enforcement officers took to social media to express their anger and disgust at the shooting.

“I hope this monster gets caught soon,” LAPD Captain Gisselle Espinoza tweeted.

“I got an stomach ache. The deputies are in my prayers. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

US Representative Adam Schiff tweeted he was praying for the two deputies saying, “Every day, law enforcement officers put themselves at risk to protect our community.

“I hope that the perpetrator of this cowardly attack can be brought to justice quickly.”

The attack on the two MPs comes amid protests in Los Angeles by the Black Lives Matter movement and calls to defund police in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

It came hours after hundreds of protesters gathered to protest the shooting death of Dijon Kizzee by members of the sheriff’s department.

The Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin, caused Black Lives Matter protesters and counter-protesters to clash in demonstrations across the United States.
