Man ‘mugged’ and car ‘stolen’ in terrifying incident in Clonmel, Co Tipperary

A man was allegedly assaulted and had his car stolen in a terrifying incident in Tipperary on Saturday afternoon.

Gardai is investigating after the alleged assault on Clonmel at 3pm on Green Street.

The man, in his 30s, was allegedly assaulted before his car was stolen; he did not need medical attention.

A man has been arrested in connection with the incident, but has since been released without charge.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí is investigating an alleged theft incident that occurred in Green Street, Clonmel at approximately 3pm on Saturday 12 September 2020.

“It is understood that a 30-year-old man was assaulted and his car was taken away during the incident. The injured man declined medical treatment. His car was recovered shortly after by Gardaí and the occupant, a man in his 30s, was arrested. and detained at Clonmel Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“He was later released without charge. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.”
