Rosewell House’s master in shape previously claimed first-class glory in France, courtesy of Tarnawa at the Prix Vermeille and kept up the good work as Search For A Song returned to peak form.

Oisin Orr seized the easy opportunity to go back 7/1 and constantly brought the mare in to challenge Sky Bet Ebor winner Fujaira Prince (3/1) with a stadium and a half to go.

She still had something in the locker as Twilight Payment, Passion and Sovereign were weakened by the contest and, after being pulled into midfield, she kept galloping to the line to beat Roger Varian’s Newmarket raider.

Betfair reacted by reducing Search For A Song to 8/1 from 14/1 for the Long Distance Cup in Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day.

Weld said: “It has been a special day. It is my ninth Leger and I have trained her for the day for a long time. I also wanted to run that race with her for a mile and a quarter (third after Magical at Tattersalls Gold Cup on July 26 ) in case people thought it was just a mare staying.

“It was lovely on Oisin’s part, she’s only 23 and it turned her off beautifully. Coming back, I felt like she would come and win.

“Oisin gets the horses relaxed really well. Chris (Hayes) rode her wonderfully last year, don’t get me wrong. But Oisin has wonderful hands and confidently fills the horses. I love horses that get into rhythm and progress. gradually and that’s what it does very well.

“When you win the Vermeille and a race like this on the same day, you have a lot of fun.”

Regarding future plans for the two fillies, Weld added: “Today was the day for both of us, so we will have to see where we are.”
