The Tuscan Grand Prix was red-flagged after a dramatic four-car crash on lap seven at Mugello.

The unusual accident came after Antonio Giovinazzi collided with the back of Williams driver Nicholas Latifi at the restart after a period of safety in the car.

McLaren’s Carlos Sainz then hit Giovinazzi sending the Alfa Romeo driver temporarily into the air.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen was also involved in the accident with all four cars sent to the barriers.

The drivers involved were unharmed, but Romain Grosjean was furious with leader Valtteri Bottas for driving too slow on the restart.

“That was fucking stupid of whoever was at the front,” the Frenchman yelled over the radio.

“Do they want to kill us or what? This is the worst I’ve ever seen.”

Bottas had taken over the lead from Lewis Hamilton after the world champion got off to a bad start.

The safety car was issued after just two corners when Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly, last week’s surprise winner at the Italian Grand Prix, finished on the gravel.

It meant that by the end of lap nine, six drivers had withdrawn from the race with red flags lit for the second grand prix in as many weeks.
