Everything changes in A matter of sport with host Sue Barker and team captains Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell setting off on a major reorganization of the BBC One program.

Former professional tennis player Barker has been hosting the show for 23 years, succeeding David Coleman in 1997.

Former England rugby player Dawson has been captain on the show for 16 years. Former English international cricketer Phil Tufnell has been on the show for 12 years.

Commenting on Twitter Sunday morning, Dawson wrote: “Thanks for all the beautiful messages. I’m not sure how to respond so I’ll think … Needless to say, I’ll miss @QuestionofSport immensely.”

The Press Association reports that the final series of the trio as a whole will air next year. A new lineup has yet to be announced.

A BBC spokesperson said: “We would like to thank Sue for her tremendous contribution as the oldest reigning host of the show over the past 23 years, and Matt and Phil for their excellent team captaincy for 16 and 12 years respectively.

“Together they have made sure A matter of sport remains a firm favorite with BBC One audiences.

“Sue, Matt and Phil’s latest series to air next year.”

Considered by the BBC as “the oldest television sports contest in the world”, A matter of sport started in January 1970.
