A man left with serious head injuries after a brutal assault in the city center last week died in hospital.

The man, who is in his 40s, was assaulted at dawn last Wednesday in Seville Place, Dublin 1.

After the attack, he was taken to Mater Hospital, where he was pronounced dead this morning.

Gardai confirmed that the man’s body was taken to the Dublin City Morgue, where a post-mortem examination was carried out by Dr. Heidi Okkers of the State Pathologist’s Office this afternoon.

“The preliminary results of the autopsy have been provided to Gardaí, the details of which cannot be released for operational reasons,” they continued.

“An investigation into the incident and all the circumstances surrounding the man’s death continues.

“No arrests have been made in the case to date, but the Gardaí is following a defined line of investigation.

“Gardaí researchers are renewing their appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

“They are also attractive to road users who may have camera images (including dash cam) of the area at that time to make available to them.

“Anyone with information is requested to contact the Store Street Garda station incident room on 01 666 8000, the confidential Garda line on 1800 666 111 or at any Garda station.”
