The sportsbooks have installed Manchester City as the favorite for the Premier League title and I can’t see how they came to that verdict.
ep Guardiola’s side finished 18 points behind champion Liverpool last season and haven’t done enough in the transfer market to solve their defensive woes in a summer in which they lost David Silva and Leroy Sane.
I’m sure your sugar daddies have enough change in their oil-rich bank account to spend well before the October 5 transfer deadline, and yet right now, I think Liverpool are the team to beat this. season and I’m sure Jurgen Klopp and his players feel that way.
It’s hard to see any team outside of the traditional top six in the mix for the key spots in the Premier League this season, so here’s my team-by-team guide on what to expect.
LIVERPOOL
The warning signs have been flashing for Liverpool in recent weeks, but I still believe that Jurgen Klopp’s men are one step ahead of the group as they prepare to begin their defense of their Premier League title.
The intensity and ruthlessness that brought them to glory in last season’s one-horse title race have been absent since football returned in June, but I would attribute it to the fact that Liverpool had the title all but closed by then. .
Teams lose focus when the job is done and they have achieved their goal and that is what we saw from Klopp’s team, with the loss to Arsenal at the end of the season evidencing that focus had slipped.
We have hardly seen a mistake from Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk since joining Liverpool, but both made a bad slip to give Arsenal victory and the three forwards of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have also come out of the boil. . late.
However, I do hope Liverpool will fly off the blocks and get back on track as the new Premier League season kicks off with Leeds United’s visit to Anfield.
Finish ahead of Liverpool and you will win the title and you won’t be surprised to read that I hope no team can do that.
CITY OF MANCHESTER
So why are punters favorite them to the title?
It may be because history tells us that it is difficult to defend the title, but when a team finishes so far ahead of the rest, it seems strange that they are not mentioned as the trick to hold on to the title, so let’s see what. The city has to offer.
They lost 12 times in all competitions last season and some of those losses suggested that teams have found a way to get results against them.
Apart from Liverpool, all teams sit down and try to hit them at halftime and if you have good quality in the final third and catch City on a day when their forward players are offside they can be vulnerable.
For me, they are the second best team in the Premier League and I hope they will be one place behind Liverpool again this season.
MANCHESTER UNITED
They are going in the right direction, but not fast enough to get involved in the title race.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did his main job last season by finishing in the top four, but his team’s defensive problems were exposed time and time again and that will be a problem once again.
Keeper David De Gea is making too many mistakes, Harry Maguire and whoever plays alongside him are not sure and as a result are struggling to keep a clean sheet.
Going forward they are looking to have some real firepower with Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, while new signing Donny van de Beek should do well with the impressive Bruno Fernandes.
One question will always surround Paul Pogba and if he will be focused, motivated and fit for the season and if all the pieces fit into place for United they could do well.
I guess they’ll end up almost where they were last season.
CHELSEA
Frank Lampard has made a lot of signings, but getting everyone to fit in quickly will be difficult.
On paper, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner appear to be high-class arrivals, but we’ve seen teams making massive signings in the past and rarely have they found a winning formula right away.
Defensively, Chelsea were poor last season and with the attacking power they have in their ranks, hopefully that’s the area Lampard will focus on as he looks to advance.
For me they are a team to be reckoned with because now they have some real quality in that team, but it might take a season to find the right balance and they will be a huge threat in the title race next season.
TOTTENHAM AND ARSENAL
I am bringing together the North London clubs as they have a very similar history.
They both have world-class forwards, while Tottenham have Harry Kane and Arsenal rely on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with those two forwards more than capable of scoring 30 goals this season.
If either of them did that they could propel their teams into the top four, but I think Spurs are more likely to enter the mix than Arsenal.
I’m not a huge fan of José Mourinho for various reasons, but his track record is incredible and you discard it at your own risk.
With that in mind, I would be surprised if Tottenham is no better than last season, while Arsenal will continue to filter goals while David Luiz is the kingpin of their defense.
ALDO’S MAIN FOUR
1. Liverpool
2. Man City
3. Man Utd
4. Chelsea
