Maura Derrane is moving away from television to spend more time with her family.
The popular host, 50, said it’s “time for a little break” when Winning Streak’s Sinead Kennedy was announced as the third host of “Today,” which has been renamed “Today with Maura and Daith.”
Moving forward, Sinead will host the show with Daithi O Se every Monday and Tuesday, while Maura will be on the couch the rest of the week as usual.
And Maura is eager to spend more time with her son Cal, something that is often hampered by her grueling commute from Waterford and Dublin to RTE studios in Cork.
She explained, “I wanted to make time for Cal. I’ve been doing this for eight years and it’s time to step back and prioritize family.
“I have been on live television since 1996 and on afternoon television for 11 years. It’s time to take a little break. “
Maura said RTE fully supported the change.
She told the Irish Examiner: “RTE was great, they really were. I love the show, it’s my baby. I’ve always been very career oriented, but this feels like a natural time for change, it feels organic.
“Cal is getting into older babies. I want to pick her up from school to do her homework. At this age, I am his friend, I am his everything.
“I have nothing to prove to anyone, and not only to other people, but to myself.”
