Viewers of the Late Late Show were stunned when former Dublin star Bernard Brogan took part in a live ‘beeping test’ on television.

The former Sky Blues ace is promoting his new autobiographical book ‘The Hill’ and appeared on the new RTE show series with host Ryan Tubridy.

Brogan surprisingly put himself to the test with the live aptitude test in the studio as Tubridy watched.

A puzzled viewer tweeted: “What exactly is the point of Bernard Brogan running between cones in the #LateLateShow

Another commented: “Bernard Brogan doing a beep test on @RTELateLateShow it’s probably one of the most random TV shows during Covid. #LateLateShow. ”

Another viewer was more enthusiastic and said: ” @bernardbrogan doing the beep test on the #LateLateShow has made my weekend! It’s the Irishman David Beckham. ”

In his revealing new book, Brogan revealed his ‘lowest moment’ with Dublin as he struggled to get Jim Gavin’s attention in his senior year in blue when they clinched five Irish titles in a row.

The clubman from St Oliver Plunkett realized that he would not be very present at the Championship after a training session.

Brogan writes: “We were in St Clare’s, the sun was shining, the grass was freshly cut, the championship was just around the corner.

“Everyone warmed up together, then we went back to the locker room to listen to the teams and I discovered that I was one of the two guys who were not starters. The other was Paddy Andrews, who had just returned from breaking his jaw.

“That was the lowest moment I have had in my career in Dublin. Like a knife to the heart.

“I was doing well in practice after Cavan’s challenge game, getting scores, moving up on the grid, or so I thought. But it sure was easy for Jim to shut me out because in his head he was probably thinking, Well, I warned him that if we had an inside game it probably wouldn’t start.

“That was the first day I went up to the top field to kick a little to make the most of the time; Paddy came with me too.

“I don’t know what the other guys think when they see me there. Are you getting energy from it? Are you impressed that I am still grafting after fifteen years? Or do they pity me more than anything?

“That I am going to allow myself to submit to this after fifteen years? I hope it is more of the first. I hope they don’t think I’ll stick around in case we do five in a row. “
