A man was arrested after money was stolen from 18 ATMs in Dublin earlier this year.
The 34-year-old Romanian national was arrested today by detectives from the Garda National Office for Economic Crimes as part of ongoing investigations targeting international criminal organizations committing cyber fraud in Ireland.
He is currently detained at Store Street Garda Station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007, where he can be detained for up to seven days.
A garda spokesperson said: “The investigation into transaction reversal fraud was reported by a financial institution on January 13, 2020.
“Between January 8 and 10, 2020, 18 ATMs were attacked in Dublin, leading to the theft of money from customer accounts and damage to ATMs.
“GNECB continues to work closely with the UK police and Europol in targeting criminal organizations involved in cyber fraud in this jurisdiction.”
