Seven puppies were rescued by Gardai after being found in a plastic container in the trunk of a speeding car.
Gardai made the discovery after stopping a speeding male driver in his teens on the M7 on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The seven Pomeranian puppies, who were peering over the container when they were captured, are too young to be separated from their mother yet.
The young litter, none of which are microchipped or vaccinated, have been transferred to the care of the Kildare and West Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA).
A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: “While performing a speed check on the M7 in Mayfield, Co. Kildare on Saturday 29 August 2020, the Gardaí stopped a car for speeding.
“During a search of the vehicle, seven (7) Pomeranian puppies were discovered in a plastic container in the trunk of the car.
“The driver, an adult male of adolescent age, did not have the relevant documentation to account for the well-being and movements of the puppies across the border.
“None of the dogs were vaccinated or microchipped.
“The dogs were seized under the Animal Health and Welfare Act of 2013 and transferred to the care of the Kildare and West Wicklow Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (KWWSPCA).
“A fixed charge penalty notice was issued to the driver, a male of adolescent age, in connection with the speeding violation.
“No arrests have been made and a file is being prepared for the Director of the Public Ministry in relation to the seizure of the dogs.”
