CAO Points for Entry to Most College Courses Have Increased Significantly This Year, New Figures Show

Ratings inflation in this year’s Leaving Cert results has caused CAO points to rise to 70 or 80 points at the high end.

Overall, points increase for approximately three-quarters of honors or level eight courses this year.

At the college level, many have seen average point increases of between 20 and 30 points in a wide range of courses.

Additionally, several college courses have risen above the previous high of 600 points.

They include two at UCD – economics and finance (613, up to 12 points) and actuarial and financial studies (601, up to 24 points) – and four at Trinity College Dublin (management science and information systems studies (613, +24 points); dentistry science (613, +23 points); law and business (602, +26 points) and law and political science (602, +35 points).
