The Gunners finished eighth last season, but that FA Cup success has kept the job right for Mikel Arteta. The progress made during Arteta’s first eight months at the helm cannot be overstated. It seems like the real deal as a manager. Good enough to get them to the top four and go back to the Champions League? We will see. Bringing in Willian might well prove a masterstroke. His versatility and fluid movement in the final third can only help an attack that relied too heavily on Aubameyang last season. Auba is going to be a threat here. Sixteen of his 22 goals last season were against teams that finished in the lower half of the Premier League. Fulham is the bookies’ favorite to go down again, but the tie at 16/5 doesn’t seem like the worst bet in the world.

Crystal Palace v Southampton
Southampton are unbeaten in their last five top flight games on the road and won this very match quite easily in January as they headed for a 2-0 win. Stuart Armstrong is the only injury the Saints are concerned about, so Ralph Hasenhuttl and the boys It seems worth betting here against to topple a Palace team that has never won a Premier League match at home on the first day of the season.

Liverpool v Leeds United
So what is more puzzling? Boris blaming ‘young people’ for the spikes in COVID-19 cases just weeks after telling people to go out to bars and restaurants to boost the economy? Or does Manchester City start this season as the favorites to win the league title (ahead of Liverpool) with the boys in camel coats?
Liverpool were amazingly good last season. Spectacular and splendid and However, they are still 2/1 or larger and most bookies retain their title this season.. They start against Leeds United, championship winners a few months ago and now finally, finally, come back in a big way. Jurgen Klopp vs Marcelo Bielsa this weekend is truly a meeting of beautiful minds. I feel like getting Liverpool to do the job, but Leeds put up their own scoreboard and show they are not here this season just to make up the numbers.

West Ham v Newcastle United
Remember that part of the summer when Newcastle seemed to be transforming into the most powerful team in world football? When was there the talk on Twitter that Neymar was moving to Tyneside and fans were dreaming of him and Edison Cavani walking into a Greggs in Benwell to order a Steak Bake and a Mexican Chicken Oval Bite each?
Unfortunately it didn’t work out, but they’ve done some decent business in the last week. New forward Callum Wilson has an 11/2 push to score first in East London, but I’d rather Paddy Power be offering on 8/1 over newly crowned Czech Footballer of the Year Tomas Soucek to be first. The Soucek boy oozes class and seems like a great price to start his Hammers season with a bang.

West Brom v Leicester City
The Foxes are looking for a fifth straight win at The Hawthorns and are slightly less likely to get it. That said, if grimacing after watching a 10/11 hit gave you abs, then I’d have a goddamn six-pack of all the pain I’ve suffered over the years. Instead, let’s go with a fast-paced Jamie Vardy to get straight back into onion bag action.

Tottenham v Everton
English star Harry Kane has scored nine goals in his last nine Premier League appearances against Everton. How do you like apples? Anything more than 3/1 about ‘The HurriKane’ should be eaten. They are the facts.

Sheffield United vs. Wolves
The astute Nuno Espirito Santo will be eager for the Wolves to build a hugely positive 2019/20 campaign, but they are actually facing a mischievous start here against The Blades, who were brilliant last season. It’s easy to forget that 2019/20 was only Wolves’ second season in the Premier League, but in that time they have confidently established themselves as a progressive team of PL’s top 10 players. Young Portuguese wonder Fabio Silva has made a lot of money and if he settles in well they should move on this season. I just don’t see that Sheffield United can emulate their incredible effort from last season and the Wolves excite me with 13/10 much more than I should be here.

Brighton v Chelsea
They have bought big and are the third favorites for the title after a recent rush of money. However, can Chelsea’s porous defense be trusted? The Blues conceded more goals than any of the other top 10 teams in the Premier League last season. I’m not going to lie. I smell goals, people.
The scent of multiple goals floats deep in my nostrils. Like an egg fart on a school bus.
