Gardaí appeal for witnesses after the discovery of an explosive device in a Dublin housing estate

The Gardaí is seeking witnesses in connection with a viable explosive device that prompted the evacuation of houses in south Dublin.

The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the scene on Rafter’s Avenue, Crumlin at 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

It carried out a controlled explosion on what looked like an improvised explosive device. The device and its contents are now subject to a technical examination.

Local homes were evacuated and traffic diversions were implemented.

Gardaí is appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident.

Anyone in the vicinity of Rafter’s Avenue between 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night and 9 a.m. Thursday morning and you have noticed any unusual activity, you must report.

Similarly, any motorist who has been driving in the area during the same hours and who may have dash-cam images is asked to contact.
