Starting mailbox predictions
Now that the new Premier League season is just around the corner, I thought about writing down my preseason predictions. The categories are: Top 4, Europe / whatever the new Europa League 2 is called, relegation places, top scorer, signing of the season, POTY, YPOTY, manager of the season, highest worst results, highest outstanding and best game of the season. . Without any more preambles (this is excellent – Ed):
1st: Liverpool, but it will be much closer as most of the top six have strengthened well. Around 87-90 pts. (With semi CL)
2nd: Man City, if they sign Koulibaly, the title is pure pitch, but at the moment their defense is not on the same level as Liverpool’s. 85ish pts. (And the League Cup, with a CL semi or better)
3rd: Chelsea, this is the bare minimum for me or Lampard is gone (unless they win a cup and get 4th place), given their transfer window. 82 pts. (And an FA Cup)
4th: Man United, although with some more signings (Sancho, Reguilon / Telles and CB), 3rd is accessible. Wait for a good cup run. 78-80 pts.
5th: Tottenham, Mourinho’s team has been pretty decent in the market so far, but it could drop towards the end of the season as the Europa League is probably a better target. 68-70 pts (and a Europa League title)
6th: Arsenal, although Arteta is a good coach, they have not strengthened their defense as much as needed (Gabriel for me is 50/50 and, with Bellerin as if he could leave, Cedric is really good enough?), Although the attack looks decent with the new Auba contract. 65 pts. (And a semi-final of the Europa League against Atlético de Madrid. You know what’s happening again)
7th: Wolves, without Europa League benefiting Nuno’s small squad. They’ve grown decently strong, but Doherty against the Spurs is a loss for them. Expect them and the next team here to take on the seventh. 58 pts.
8th: Everton, who have leveled their midfield quite a bit and, with Don Carlo in charge, they seem formidable. However, his new midfield can take valuable time to set in, and the defense still needs a starting CB. 55 pts.
18: West Brom, who has made some decent moves in the market, especially with the signing of Diangana, but needs a bit more quality to keep up. 35 pts.
19th: Aston Villa, who doesn’t seem to be looking for a new defender as much as he needs. Ollie Watkins, if he comes, will be decent with Grealish, but his defense needs more improvement than just Forest’s Matty Cash. 31 pts.
20th: Fulham, which has “yo-yo club” written all over it, and needs to make more moves in the market, as well as smarter ones (I don’t think Lemina is going to turn out good guys). 28 pts.
Top Scorer: A vindictive and unleashed Harry Kane with 29 goals, having a relatively injury-free season before making his ACL in the quarterfinals of Euro 2021 when England are eliminated in ET by Italy.
Signature of the season: If it happens, Jadon Sancho, but otherwise Timo Werner seems to be excellent value for money as I estimate he is going to score 20 goals this season.
Player of the year: For me, De Bruyne is sure to win it again, but if United have a better season than expected, Bruno Fernandes could come in with a shout.
Young Player of the Year: TAA for completing the hat-trick, a world class comeback at 21.
Coach of the season: Marcelo Bielsa, who will lead Leeds to ninth position.
Biggest Underperforming: West Ham, who do this so much it can hardly be called underperforming, gets into another relegation fight before some more of Moyesy’s magic takes them to 15th place.
Biggest Overcomers: Leeds, who, for a promoted team, will do exceptionally well for ninth place (you could call this the Sheffield United award)
Best game of the season: While United-Liverpool on May 1 looks tempting as a potential title race change, I’m going to United’s visit to Leeds the week before and forecast a similar explosively pulsing 3-3 draw al United – Sheffield United’s game at Bramall Lane last season.
So those are my preseason predictions, let’s see what they think of the Mailbox! Feel free to fill in the template with your own predictions! Seb, Berkeley, MUFC (United to win the league while exclusively scoring pens is one of my deepest wishes)
Accurate Premier League Predictions
We hope that the Premier League starts again! As people predict their final tables etc, this is what I think will happen this weekend:
-Crystal Palace will beat Southampton, prompting talk of its reactivation.
-Leeds will win against an out-of-place Liverpool, causing Twitter to melt under the high volume of trolling from Manchester.
-Tottenham will achieve a narrow win over Everton but Mourinho will still find something to complain about
– West Brom’s unlikely draw against Leicester will mislead experts into saying “they’ll be fine.”
What else?
Paul in Brussels (will definitely happen)
Is it okay to tap now?
I only have a couple of questions.
1. What about some of these new kits? Some of them remind me of that tiger team that Hull tested and was programmed years ago, especially United’s zebra team.
2. Is there no tapping these days? I can only relate to us, as that’s all I’m paying attention to, but I remember we got a bit of a kick for playing Van Dijk just a few summers ago. Today I was watching Transfer Center on Sky and apparently a breakthrough with Sancho to United is that personal terms and agent fees have been agreed, now all they have to do is send an official offer to Dortmund. By the way, this is not an excavation, this is a genuine question, have the transfer rules changed? My interpretation of things is that the club with which the player is contracted has to give permission to speak with a player. I know all kinds of things happen behind the scenes, like verifying that a player wants to come and third parties and all of that, it’s just the fact that it was advertised on Sky in that way made me wonder if the “official way of doing things “they’ve changed?

Not a bad week to be an Evertonian
As I watched Everton implode towards the end of the season after the inevitable coaching coup, I couldn’t help but watch Ancelotti, arms crossed on the touchline, staring at that midfield mess that we had tried to play at a Premier Level. League. Ridible, hilarious, sobering, maddening, take your pick. However, one thing was clearly evident. Don Carlo was not a happy man and he knew he had to make some changes.
Well here we are, a week before the new season with a lot of optimism (I support Everton, they will get that optimism out of me in week 8 if not before, it’s Everton) and we have a new midfield of Allan, Rodríguez and Dourcoure. Add a healthy Gomes to that and we can be on to something. I’m still waiting to see how Gbamin turns out when healthy. Fair play for Moshiri, Brands and Carlo for getting business done quickly, affordably and early. Now we need to get some of that money back and we have a lot of players to sell if your team is interested:
Sigurdsson: We paid 45 million, we will leave it to you for 20 million, pointing included.
Davies: A loan might do the boy good, but if you spend 10-15 months on our way, we’d bite your hand (skateboard not included).
Delph: Your favorite team could have it for free, just take the salary, please.
Sandro: Free too, but it will cost you much more than free, believe me.
Honestly, I think some players like Walcott, Iwobi and Bernard could benefit from this new influx of talent and could be useful options from the bench (emphasis on “could be”).
Overall, it wasn’t a bad week to be an Evertonian *
* Subject to change without notice
* past performance with no guarantee of future results
* Yes, these players would not have come to Everton without Carlo at the helm, we understand that. That’s why we hired him.

Bloody grip, England fans
May I ask those who wrote pillory Southgate for walking away in a glorified friendly – When was the last time you got excited? Was it during the World Cup that England reached the semi-finals? They should definitely have held back whoever handled them during that! When was the last time England had a coach who was able to implement a solid and fluid tactical plan? Sir Bobby? Sir Alf? Why, given all the evidence to the contrary, do you expect anything more than what you’ve been given in the last 30 years? Why do you hate your own team so much? How do you expect the players to perform before the season begins?
As a neutral, I can tell you that England have always been disappointing and played boring football. Every national team in the last 30 years has been disappointing and played boring football. This is international football.
One final question. How did France do in their last two games? Spain? Holland? Nobody gives a shit about these games, they are not competitive and it is not important to win them. Come and complain if England does not qualify for whatever or if it is eliminated by Andorra, but until then, control yourself.

Flat track thugs?
I know Radoa spoke wryly, but accusations that people are bullies always baffle me.
Two reasons:
First: shouldn’t every scorer expect to do better against inferior teams? If Ronaldo had hit in 7 against Brazil, you would criticize him for getting only the same number against Lithuania, comparatively poor (sorry Lithuania). It seems to me that every striker who plays the game is called a flat-court bully, but surely hopefully he’ll do better in easier matches.
Second: great teams don’t play much against each other in international football. For example, using Brazil again, you only played them 3 times; most recently in 2010 – two friendlies and one last game in the dead group… similar story for the other big teams he never scored against.
Altogether, I think it’s pretty good.
