A busy road in South Dublin has been closed due to emergency services at the scene of an incident.

Crumlin Road has been closed to traffic as gardai and a bomb squad are dealing with a bomb scare on Rafter’s Road.

A Garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí is currently at the scene of a suspicious device that was discovered on Rafter’s Avenue in Crumlin shortly after 9 am this morning.

“The area is sealed and the Army’s EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) is now in place. There are currently road detours on Crumlin Road and Drimnagh Road. “

AA Roadwatch says that outgoing traffic on Crumlin Road is diverting to Windmill Road and Kildare Road, and incoming traffic on Drimnagh Road is also heading to Kildare Road.

Dublin Bus has announced detours on routes 27, 56a, 77a and 151. These buses will operate via Kildare Road and Sundrive Road.

A Dublin Bus spokesperson said: “We wish to advise customers that due to the closure of the Crumlin Road 27,56a, 77a and 151 routes they will operate via Kildare Road and Sundrive Road.
