Taoiseach Micheal Martin says that a decision on whether Dublin and Limerick counties will be forced into a local shutdown will be discussed during a cabinet meeting tomorrow (Thursday).
Micheal said that despite rampant rumors of an imminent shutdown in the capital as Covid-19 cases continue to rise, “no specific decisions have been made yet.”
“No specific decisions have been made in relation to those two counties,” Micheal said at a news conference today. “But there are many concerns regarding the increase in numbers in Dublin and Limerick.

“We will continue to collaborate with Nphet and we will keep an eye on that.
“Tomorrow (Thursday) there will be a meeting of the Cabinet Covid Committee, and obviously we will discuss this in great detail.
“In terms of keeping our economy going, protecting jobs at all times, seeking a balanced perspective, today’s message is to be very vigilant, socially distance yourself and reduce your social contacts.”
People in Dublin and Limerick are being encouraged to be more vigilant with health measures in an attempt to avoid a local shutdown.
“It is very important in terms of stopping the spread of the virus. We have learned along the way from different initiatives. And we have also learned from what happened in Laois, Offaly and Kildare. That does not lead to the same answer in this situation.
“We are learning lessons about what works and what doesn’t, and how we can protect people’s livelihoods along the way.
“We just have to keep monitoring the situation as to where we are. And obviously in terms of those two counties. “
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the “wet pubs” will finally reopen on September 21 with specific guidelines, including:
Time slots limited to 1 hour and 45 minutes. It is also recommended that there is a physical distance of 1 meter.
Face coverings are mandatory for staff and customers entering and leaving the building.
It will not be necessary to book in advance. Parties will not be allowed to take place in private rooms or function rooms and there must be no more than three households at a table.
