The Department of Transportation has said that reviewing a report on the Rescue 116 helicopter crash is still continuing, more than six months after the process was formally announced.
Four members of the Irish Coast Guard crew were killed when the helicopter crashed into Blackrock Island, off the north coast of Mayo in 2017.
After an extensive and extensive investigation, last September the draft of the final report of the Air Accidents Investigation Unit was delivered to interested parties.
In March this year, a review board was established to examine certain findings following a request from one of the parties subject to the investigation.
The process is the result of a claim by the party in question that the findings negatively reflected on its reputation.
This is the first time that an AAIU investigation review has been conducted.
The review board is chaired by Senior Counsel Patrick McCann, who is assisted by an independent expert member.
It is understood that witnesses have not yet been summoned before the board.
A department spokesman said the review was completely independent and that it was up to the president to determine how the process would be carried out and how long it would take to complete.
The bodies of Captain Dara Fitzpatrick and Captain Mark Duffy were recovered in the days after the tragedy.
The remains of his colleagues, winch operator Paul Ormsby and winch man Ciarán Smith, remain lost at sea.
