A big change is on the way this weekend, as a wave of warmer air comes in and brings highs of 21 ° C this Sunday.

While storm fears have eased with the latest update, it looks like it’s going to bypass the country.

Carlow Weather’s meteorological expert Alan O’Reilly had been concerned that a storm might be on its way towards us, but luckily now he has predicted that it won’t hit us.

He said: “The weekend looks pretty good with no storm in sight.”

Meanwhile, today will be the warmest day of the week with temperatures peaking at 23 ° C, while some periods of sunshine are likely to occur at times.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Mostly cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of light rain and drizzle that continue to affect western counties, more persistent near coasts and hills. Mostly dry elsewhere, with only a little patchy drizzle Sometimes Some bright or sunny seasons break through in the southeast.

“Mild and humid, with fog on hills and coasts. Highs 18 to 23 degrees, warmer in the east. Mostly moderate winds from the southwest, cool to strong on the coasts.

“An irregular rain band will spread out from the northwest later tonight, across the country overnight. Most areas will see some rain or drizzle, however the totals will be small.”

“Clearer weather will follow towards dawn with some rains in the northwest. A mild and cloudy night will begin, becoming cooler with clearance with lows of 11 to 13 degrees. Moderate and gusty winds from the southwest diverting to the northwest, cool to strong on the shores. “

There will be more mixed conditions for the rest of the week, with patches of rain on both Thursday and Friday.

Prospects are better for the weekend and mostly dry weather is expected, although it will remain cloudy, with highs of 21 ° C on Sunday.

One forecaster added: “A bright dry start to Thursday. Clouds pick up during the day with patches of light rain or drizzle on the west coast, but stay mostly dry elsewhere. Highs of 15 or 16 degrees with a light breeze to moderate from the southwest, cool to strong on the western coasts.

“A strip of rain will cross the country early Friday, clearing the sun and downpours. Highs of 15 to 17 degrees, with a moderate breeze from the southwest.

“Very dry on the weekend, but quite cloudy with the possibility of a rain or two in the west and the best of the brightness in the east. Highs 15-18 degrees Saturday, 18-21 degrees Sunday.”
