A teenager pleaded guilty to the murder of a 20-year-old man earlier this year, it emerged.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because he is a minor, was charged in Glen Osborne’s death at Ballybough House, Ballybough, Dublin, on April 15.
Today in the Central Criminal Court, the boy, who was 16 years old at the time of the crime, was prosecuted and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Judge Paul McDermott placed him in custody until October 5.
Pauline Whalley SC of the prosecution told the judge that the mother of the deceased wishes to make a statement in court before a sentence is imposed.
Since the defendant is a minor, the mandatory life sentence for murder does not apply.
Judge McDermott said the guilty plea means Osborne’s family will not have to suffer the trauma of hearing extensive evidence in connection with his death.
However, he added that before sentencing he will need to hear evidence related to the incident, the effect it has had on the family of the deceased and evidence in relation to the accused.
The judge also ordered the preparation of a probation report.
