James Rodríguez has reunited with Carlo Ancelotti for the third time after Everton announced the signing of the Colombian from Real Madrid for two years, with the club having the option of a third season.
The 29-year-old was brought to the Bernabéu shortly after his starring role in the 2014 World Cup by Ancelotti, who then joined the playmaker three years later when Bayern Munich signed the loaner.
Rodríguez spent two years with the Bundesliga giants before returning to Real, where he made just 14 appearances in all competitions last season, clearly above the requirements of head coach Zinedine Zidane.
It has become the Toffees’ second summer signing, after Brazilian international Allan, who also worked with Ancelotti when they were at Napoli.
“I am very, very happy to be in this great club, a club with so much history, and here with a coach who knows me very well,” Rodríguez told evertonfc.com.
“I’m looking forward to achieving great things here, and winning things, which is everyone’s goal.
“I came here to try to improve, to improve. I also came here to help the team win, to play good football, entertaining football.
“I am convinced, with Carlo and his coaching staff, we can achieve great things and one of the great reasons (I signed) was the presence of Carlo Ancelotti.
“I’ve had great moments with him before at two different clubs. That was a great reason to come here.”
