A Cork woman who was quarantined at home after a vacation in Turkey asked through her lawyer to be excused from court, where she was facing sentencing on a threat charge.

Judge Olann Kelleher rejected the request and issued a warrant in Cork District Court for the defendant’s arrest.

Hanora Dolan, 45, of Dublin Street, Blackpool, should have been in court today, Judge Olann Kelleher said.

Diarmuid Kelleher’s lawyer said the defendant had returned from a vacation in Turkey and was forced to remain in quarantine for two weeks so that she could not go to court.

Judge Olann Kelleher said that anyone could do that and not go to court because they were quarantined.

The judge said he would not accept it as an excuse for not attending court.

“She went to Turkey on her vacation knowing that she would be forced to go into quarantine upon her return at a time when she also knew she was facing a sentence in the Cork District Court,” Judge Kelleher said.

The judge refused to postpone the sentence on the grounds that the defendant did not appear. Instead, he issued an arrest warrant for the accused to be brought to court for sentencing.

Garda Niamh O’Shea previously testified that Gardaí was called to the scene of a dispute on February 1.

They arrived and found Hanora Dolan in a dispute with a taxi driver. She refused to leave the car.

Garda O’Shea said: “She got aggressive with the taxi driver and yelled at him. It was unintelligible. She was slurring her words and yelling at his face. “Dolan was convicted of engaging in threatening behavior and being drunk and being a source of danger to herself or others at the time.
